Let’s Make a Plan

Throughout the year, a variety of activities and events are offered that seek to encourage healthy lifestyles amongst our clients through active living, healthy eating, and tobacco cessation. MBCHCH offers FREE group fitness sessions that are suitable for all fitness levels.

Community Clinics

Screening and Wellness Clinics were both developed to find health conditions before they become urgent. Screening Clinics happen in community locations like banks and grocery stores or at events that offer easy access for residents.

Screenings can include blood sugar and blood pressure tests that may lead to follow-up attention. Separate Wellness Clinics for Men and Women offer a full service health care experience with each client seeing at least five professionals to get an overall health exam and education on personal health management.

Seniors in Motion

Seniors come together for a variety of programs sponsored by MBCHC and its partners:

SAGES – Sage Advice and Gentle Exercises for Seniors is a ten week fall prevention initiative. Participants report outcomes such as enhanced social networks, the benefits of physical activity, and an improved awareness about topics like heart and stroke, food and mood.

Healthy Measures

Obesity has been identified as the second most preventable cause of death behind smoking. Out of the need to address this issue, the Healthy Measures initiative was adopted MBCHC. Clients come to the Health Centre for individual monitoring of weight, nutrition and exercise programs, They gain encouragement to safely reduce weight and receive advice on the use of medications and other factors associated with obesity.

Smoking Cessation

The “Quit 4 Life” ten-week program is offered periodically in Ignace to encourage anyone wanting to stop smoking.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is another program offered periodically that provides clients with 8 weeks of NRT and counselling on how to quit smoking.

Kids in the Kitchen

A cooking program for children actively engages them in learning about healthy eating.

Teens in Motion

Teens in Motion is a drop-in youth group. Several community partners come together to promote healthy recreational and social activities.
